The 2015 A27 Corridor Feasibility Study found that the A27
is already significantly over capacity at Worthing & Lancing.
Ikea project 2 million visits per year, that's 38,500 per week, 5,500 per day in and out! Plus the traffic from the 600 homes.
In the Vectos trip generation it predicts 229 arrivals to the housing development in the evening peak period. We consider this to be a massive under estimate for 600 homes.
All of this traffic will enter the development by a new traffic signal controlled roundabout, after the Sussex Pad traffic lights are removed. Part of the Highways England original solution was to convert the existing Grinstead lane roundabout to a new traffic signal controlled junction. That will make it two traffic controlled junction/roundabouts and two traffic light pedestrian crossings within 1 mile.
Highways England have yet to put forward a revised plan to solve the A27, let alone how the road will cope with
a 13% increase in traffic from the NMF and airport development.
